When I was the ripe old age of eleven, my besties stole our summer camp's mascot. A heist is only as notorious as its PR, so expectations for negotiations were high and my friends were in desparate need of a witty-yet-menacing letter. They turned to me.
The powers that be found my ransom note so humorous they read it aloud to the entire camp. A cabin leader (turns out she was a published author) found me afterwards and said, "I can't wait to read your book someday."
Not only did I get my writing 'published' for the first time that summer, I also experienced the thrill of recognition from a fellow word nerd. Three cheers for the lovely world of writers encouraging writers at all ages and stages!
